Department of IT was established in the year 2000. Information Technology is a compulsory subject for semester I & II of B.A. / B. Sc. The paper has two components, Theory and Practical. The Main objective of IT is to understand the role of Information Technology in the present social and economic scenario. The syllabus of IT is modified after a period of 3 years so as to equip the teachers and students with modern use of IT services and other applications. The syllabus of IT has important concepts like E-Commerce, M-Commerce, E-Retail and also about different technique in animation and graphics such ad tweening, morphing etc. The syllabus is modified for the academic year 2013-2014 to develop an awareness and understanding of cyber security and its related aspects and how to take measures to protect individual privacy and prevent loss / Theft of data.
The practical component is mainly introduced to equip the students with the healthy practices and efficient use of IT tools and modern devices such as scanners, Printers, L.C.D Projector etc. Students are equipped with the knowledge of setting up a security level, sharing directories, keeping laptop, smart phone cyber secure. It also trains the students for security of social networking and on-line banking, installation of different types of software and calculating income tax by downloading forms Egovernance sites. Department of IT has a laboratory with 35 computers and network facility. The faculty member has done M. phil and submitted Ph.D. Thesis on 'Numerical Schemes on Smooth Manifolds' at Karnataka University, Dharwad.
