The Department of Botany was established in the year 1986 together with the Department of Zoology and later in the year of 1992 separated as an independent Botany Department. In the past years Botany Department has witnessed many changes. The changes were for the progress and the betterment of the Department. The Department got two spacious airy and independent working place-one in the form of Botany laboratory and another in the form of research laboratory cum staff room.
Botany Department is a joint family, with six teachers, three with Ph. Ds and three with M. Phils in the subject. The morale is high and so are the expectations. The faculty always tries to stimulate academic excellence nurturing and see them flowering with intense enthusiasm and involvement. The Department results are excellent at all levels of the undergraduate course. As a part of curriculum students and faculty members in past visited research organisation of the state and outside the state like NCAOR, NIO, ICAR, Birbal Sahni Palaeobotanical Institute, NBRI, Lucknow, Shibpur Botanical Garden, Bose Research Institute Kolkatta, etc. The Students study and are trained during the practicals, the various aspects of Botany like Phycology, Mycology, Bryology, Palaeobotany, Physiology and Biochemistry, Forest & Forestry, Medicinal Plants, Genetics, Plant Systematics, Molecular Architecture of Cytological Landmarks, Satellite Remote Sensing Applications in Forest and Vegetation Studies, Biodiversity Conservation, Biotechnological Approaches, Pattern Formation in Angiosperm Embryos.
The Department wants to create an awareness of preserving the environment among the students as we know the future will be at peril without the plants.
